Tuesday, February 27 is National Pancake Day and if you are a fan of the fluffy flat breakfast cake we’ve got the perfect way for you to celebrate.
The thin flat cake is made from batter and fried in a pan on a griddle. The mixture usually consists of eggs, flour, milk, or water, oil or melted butter. Some pancake batter is also made of buttermilk. The first ready-mix pancake ingredient sold commercially was Aunt Jemima’s pancake flour. It was invented in 1889 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

The first pancake recipe made its appearance in an English cookbook in the fifteenth century. Pancakes are found in almost every culture these days. On record, the world’s biggest pancake was cooked in Rochdale, Manchester in 1994, and was measured at 15 meters in diameter, weighed three tons and had an estimated two million calories!
Culturally, one of the best things about eating pancakes is the variety of toppings you can add various fruits and syrups. Maple syrup, the most common of syrups used on pancakes, was initially a sweet drink which was discovered by the Algonquin Indians.

On average we consume two pancakes per person on Pancake Day. As a nation, that means we get through 117 million pancakes in just one day!
