Lorde is not one for controversy. She is typically drama free, except for her friendship with Taylor Swift. But last night the New Zealand singer found herself in hot water.
On Thursday night after her Brooklyn show, Lorde posted a photo of a bathtub filled with water. The caption was, “And iiii will always love you” lyrics from Whitney Houston’s song “I Will Always Love You.” Fans were upset that Lorde used a photo of a bathtub with Houston lyrics because Houston died in a bathtub.
Lorde has been on an intense tour and obviously relaxing in a tub seems like bliss. But fans are upset and thought it was in poor taste.

Houston died in February of 2012 the day before the Grammy Awards. She was found in a bathtub and according to the autopsy report died from drowning, cocaine and atherosclerotic heart disease. The heart issues are to be believed connected to her long-time cocaine use.
Houston fans came for Lorde and flooded her post, so much so that she deleted it and issued an apology. On her Instagram story, she wrote, “Extremely extremely poorly chosen quote. I’m so sorry for offending anyone – I hadn’t even put this together I was just excited to take a bath. I’m an idiot. Love Whitney forever and ever Sorry again.”
Yes, the Houston quote with a photo of a bathtub is in poor taste. But based on Lorde’s apology it seems like she didn’t post the photo maliciously, it was an honest mistake.
Houston may have passed six years ago, but her fan base remains strong and loyal. Hopefully, Lorde won’t put her foot in her mouth again.
