The Met Gala is only a few weeks away, and we’re already anticipating our feeds being full of luxe OOTN’s and memes that the celebs should have seen coming. The annual affair places a more significant emphasis on guests’ outfit choices than most other red carpet events as it precedes, and benefits, the Costume Institute’s latest fashion exhibit. Guests will arrive in the Upper East Side in custom-made outfits and prove that fashion knows no bounds.
Celebrities will usually go the extra mile beyond just donning a high slit dress and sky-high heels. Helpers will be on hand to adjust 20-foot long trains, some outfits will leave little to the imagination, and other creations will generally be walking hazards though it makes for all the better eye candy.
This year’s theme is “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” breaking tradition from themes centered around a specific designer. While guests are expected to wear clothing inspired by the yearly theme, it doesn’t stop celebrities from putting it all out there. With each passing year, the outfits have become a little longer, a little sheerer and a bit more unexpected. See the celebrities who wore the most extra outfits over the past years.

Priyanka quite literally swept the floor with her Ralph Lauren train. Twitter had a field day photoshopping the Egyptian pyramids and family picnics into her gown.

No stranger to risque looks, Bella attended last year’s Gala in an Alexander Wang jumpsuit and later told People that she had to be “sewn in.”
Katy Perry

Katy arrived at 2017’s Gala in a blindingly red gown-and-veil ensemble by John Galliano. “Witness” was written on her veil as a way of announcing the title of her fifth album.
Rihanna
I hope The Crown is about Rihanna next season for she is our true Queen. #MetGala pic.twitter.com/UOpZyCtz4A

Red carpet veteran RiRi turned heads, as she does, in a Comme des Garçons creation which no doubt made it hard for anyone to stand near her.

Solange wore a Giles Deacon mini that doubled as an optical illusion, keeping up with the “China: Through the Looking Glass” theme.

Lady Gaga

Known for her 2010 meat dress and outrageously high platform heels among her other outfit choices, Lady Gaga walked the red carpet in a billowing feathered kimono and a headpiece by Balenciaga.
