In the past, it was easy to feel a little bit lost in college. You may well have been the most popular kid in high school, with a plethora of friends that you could meet up with in the holidays, but, at college, if you fell foul of the wrong fraternity or just couldn’t find the right people to make friends with, you could easily end up sitting in your classes and lectures fretting about missing out on the amazing college experience you’d been expecting.

Of course, advances in technology can still put you in the college spotlight for all the wrong reasons, such as this story, which left a family rather red in the face, but there’s no doubt that improvements in tech have the ability to give young people the confidence needed to settle in during that all-important first semester at college.
Multiplayer games, casino games, and more: Excelling in the age of the internet
In times gone by, you might have been sat wondering if you were the only person who feared the challenge of uprooting yourself (possibly traveling from one coast to another) when it came to leaving home. Nowadays, there are even guides online about how to avoid loneliness and how to meet new people.
Of course, one such way is to go online and make friends via dedicated student chat areas, where you can make friends before heading to college, but if you want to get to know new people better, you could use the gaming scene to cement your friendships and learn more about those you might be hanging out with. You can find friends by live streaming video games, getting involved in clans on multiplayer role-playing games, and by playing blackjack pontoon.
With some courses like math and science all about working out formulas and showing off with numbers, this and other versions of online black jack can be particularly good for showing off to potential new friends. Games like these can represent a great place to ‘meet’ before doing so in person, and can be carried through your college life as well, when you want to be socializing during term time but can’t quite make it out of your room for long bursts (perhaps during exam season!).
Finding those Facebook friends
Away from gaming, it is easy to forget now that Facebook was originally created to be used for college students and wasn’t immediately available to people outside colleges. You can see proof of this by looking into the history of Facebook and remembering that it originally had a title of Coursematch to help people work together and get to know each other on the courses they were studying.

While it may have outgrown these roots, the fact is that Facebook now means that you can find, converse with, and become friends with people over the internet through chat groups and even secret groups. This means that if you want to avoid sitting in your room all by yourself, the age of the internet makes it a whole lot easier to get involved, making settling in a lot more seamless for those worried about not being able to find lifelong friends.
