8 Eco-Friendly Products That Won’t Break The Bank & Help Reduce Plastic

We all want to help the Earth and become more eco-conscious, but sometimes it seems like becoming entirely eco-conscious is A LOT of work and can be costly. But even small lifestyle changes can have a significant impact on the environment. Twitter user, @avokaiito, tweeted a thread of eco-friendly products you can buy on Amazon that are cheap but will make an enormous impact.

Check out the eight small changes you can implement to make your daily life more eco-friendly

Metal Straws

Plastic straws are bad and they’re everywhere. Plastic straws are the main culprit behind the push to keep plastic out of the ocean. National Geographic reports that roughly eight million tons of plastic pollute the ocean every year. “And although straws amount to a tiny fraction of ocean plastic, their size makes them one of the most insidious polluters because they entangle marine animals and are consumed by fish,” the magazine reported.

An easy fix to this is reusable metal straws. Throw one in your bag and you’re good to go whenever your coffee craving kicks in.

Metal Cutlery

Again, plastic eating utensils are a huge waste. Keeping a travel silverware set in your bag or at your desk will cut back on so much plastic use. Washing a fork and knife every day is a small inconvenience to help the environment.

Bamboo Toothbrushes

Plastic toothbrushes aren’t biodegradable and never break down. Another Twitter user, @mariyahlifts, pointed out that every toothbrush you have ever used is still on the planet somewhere.

The solution is bamboo toothbrushes. You can get a pack of four for under $10 and they’ll last the whole year if you discard after every three months. They’re biodegradable and just overall better for you. You can even find ones with charcoal bristles.

Reusable Produce Bags

Plastic produce bags are a huge plastic waste. You can easily swap out plastic produce bags with reusable product pouches. Amazon has options that are relatively cheap and come in various sizes so all your veggies will be stored plastic free. Using non-plastic bags also keeps your produce fresher longer.

Reusable Grocery Bags

I feel like this is a popular swap, but using a reusable grocery bag and not a plastic bag does make a big difference. These bags on amazon fold up nicely so you can quickly throw a bag in your purse.

Reusable Ziplock bags

Ziplock bags and plastic wrap are great and all but that’s so much plastic. There are reusable replacements for these everyday items. Amazon sells reusable silicone bags that can take the place of your favorite ziplock bags. There are also reusable food wraps that can be used instead of plastic wrap. A popular eco-friendly food wrap option is Bee’s Wrap, plastic that is lined with beeswax.

Another form of plastic you use frequently are dryer sheets. Most dryer sheets are made with plastic and types of wool. These Method dryer sheets are made of compostable paper and you can get them at Target as well as Amazon.
