Most people think when it comes to celebrities, they have flawless skin underneath the makeup but in reality, they struggle with blushes, Rosacea, any skin conditions that affect our daily life. Though, they are using their platform to open up more about what they’re struggling with instead of hiding it. It’s something that we’ve seen in the media a lot lately, and as someone who was born and raised in the ’90s, it’s a beautiful thing to see. Also as someone who struggles with acne, I can relate and how it impacts your self-esteem and makes you self-conscious.
Below, you’ll see 6 celebrities talking out about their acne:
Lili Reinhart, who plays Betty Cooper on Riverdale has been opening about her struggles with cystic acne. However, she recently revealed that she has been dealing with cystic acne ever since she was 12 on her Instagram Stories. In fact, what Reinhart did was lift the veil on the so-called flawless skin by providing the truth that it affects people we were led to believe it doesn’t. She shared with her followers via Instagram stories that she was doing a photoshoot which exposed her breakout and that it causes significant insecurity, the reason why is because it makes you believe that everyone is looking at that spot on her forehead. This is what she states on her Insta stories:
“I have a cystic acne breakout on forehead currently. And I had to do a photo shoot all day long,” she shared on her stories. “20+ people were studying my face on the camera monitor at any given time during the 11 hours shoot…and all I could think about when I was in front of the camera were the pimples on my forehead.”
“I’m not sure if or when I’ll ever be able to accept my skin as it is. It’s problematic. It scars easily. It’s painful,” she goes on. “But I’m hoping that someday I can feel beautiful even if I’m having a breakout.”
The Bachelor‘s own Bekah Martinez has been struggling with acne ever since she was 18 and she recently posted a selfie on Instagram where you can see her acne and how she talked about how everything that she tried didn’t work for her.
The thing is, having someone who was on The Bachelor come clean on social media, is enormous. The reason why it’s huge is that as someone who’s struggling with adult acne her entire life, I can relate to her, it gets tiring trying a lot of things to clear up your skin so you can look like everyone else with flawless skin.
You might remember back in January that Kendall caused a stir because she appeared at the Golden Globes with her acne and it wasn’t covered up with any makeup. In which, makeup isn’t that great for your pores because of the dirt that builds up in them and causes breakouts (make sure you’re washing your face at least two-three times a day). She responded to the critics by saying, “Never let that S*** stop you.” Meaning, don’t let breakouts or anything like that, stopping you.
Granted the tweet is from last year, but it still stands as some kind of confidence truth. Somehow, this is empowering to everyone who is dealing with all types of skin conditions, and quite frankly, we need this again as a reminder that we can do anything despite feeling insecure.
Even though most of us want to avoid errands during a breakout and seeing someone attractive, some of us don’t have to worry about paps. Yeah, I’m talking about the paparazzi. Though, shout out to those who don’t really care about them. Though, that didn’t stop Lucy Hale to show everyone that she doesn’t have flawless skin. Though, she makes the zit cream look fabulous.
Back in 2016, The Star Wars actress opened up and honest about her struggle with endometriosis deeply affects her skin and her self-esteem as well. During the nine-year battle dealing with the disorder, her skin was the worst. She hates wearing makeup, and she felt like she can’t leave the house without it.
