Being single is fun and it’s important…But only for so long. Whether you’re in a relationship or not, there are certain things we do that can sabotage them, present or future.  No need to stress but it’s totally ok to reflect and try to be better.

For all the single girls and girls in relationships, here are so behaviors to avoid when you’re in a relationship!

Losing yourself in the person!

So your new boyfriend is a vegan and you love burgers but now you’re a vegan because he is.  Would you still be doing what you’re doing if you weren’t a relationship? No, and that’s a red flag. You still need your independence when you’re in a relationship and while you may change a little bit you still should always be yourself! It’s ok to find something new with your partner that you enjoy but don’t lose yourself and become something you’re not.

To avoid this, check yourself and compare yourself to who you were before the relationship. If your friends are telling you you’ve changed, take a moment and reflect on it because sometimes they may be right!

Lying.

Generally, you always want to avoid lying.  Dishonesty is bad but at the same time, everyone fibs from time to time. We’re not here to be the moral compass and define what is a fib and what is a lie but generally lying kills relationships and they don’t even have to be big ones.

Lying about getting something done isn’t a huge deal but more so annoying. But, being in a relationship with someone who can easily shrug off the truth isn’t good either.

Acting like your single.

This is a big fat duh.  But, if you’re out flirting with people at the bar like you’re single it’s going to create a problem! In a relationship, it’s we, instead of me! And thinking just ‘me’ will usually cause issues.

Nagging.

No one wants to feel like their dating their mom. Mom’s have a free pass to nag their kids, partners don’t! Nagging is a vicious cycle and can be centered around something very simple. You shouldn’t have to nag your partner to get something done and if you have to force them to do something — which leads to nagging, it’s probably not a good situation.

Criticizing Constantly

There is an amount of healthy criticism but it can also cross the line and become mean, off-putting,  even the root of insecurity and always toxic. Being honest is important but there is a difference between being blunt or honest and over critical. Picking on your partner is never good and you need to find a way to stop that or walk away from the relationship. This goes for both sides!

Avoiding uncomfortable moments.

Confrontation is tough and it’s easier to bite your tongue than talk about something difficult and make someone upset. But, this is unhealthy. Brushing everything under the rug to avoid the uncomfortable moments is not good in a relationship and it can lead to resentment.  Talk about it because it’s going to be much better in the long run!
