The classic movie franchise The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants is getting the Broadway treatment and being turned into a musical.
The book turned movie now turns musical is a cult fan favorite. The movie, which stars Blake Lively, Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera and Alexis Bledel, is about four friends who stay connected throughout the summer by a pair of magical jeans that fit them all.
Deadline reports that production company, Blue Spruce Production, has acquired the rights from Alcon Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment. Alcon and Alloy are going to be head productions on the musical as well.
Alcon and Alloy produced both The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants and The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2. The movies are based on Ann Brashare’s books.
The books are so popular that a third movie installment could be in the works. In 2016 Tamblyn said that another movie is definitely a possibility. “I have no information about [a release date], but I can obviously tell you that something is definitely in the works”, she said.
Even though the movies are a decade old the four actresses are still super close. The regularly hang out and have mini-reunions.

But it’s doubtful that the core four will be in the musical. This isn’t the first cult movie turned into a musical. Most recently Means Girls was made into a Broadway musical. The play was nominated for 12 Tony Awards but unfortunately didn’t win any.
