Former reality star Lyric McHenry was found dead on a sidewalk in Manhattan on August 14. The 26-year-old was found on a sidewalk in the Bronx without any pants and in possession of cocaine, according to Daily Mail.
The Stanford University alum gained fame from EJ Johnson’s reality TV show, EJNYC. Besides being best friends with Johnson, McHenry and her sister Maya produced the show. NY Daily News reported that McHenry was found on a sidewalk above the Major Deegan Expressway around 5 A.M. in a pajama top and underwear.
McHenry was 20 weeks pregnant. It’s unknown whether or not she knew she was pregnant. According to NY Daily News she had a small bag of cocaine on her. They also report that her knees were bruised but there were no other injuries. She was taken to the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital. Police suspect she died from a drug overdose and are investigating if she was dumped on the sidewalk. An autopsy is still underway.
Before she died, McHenry was out with friends celebrating her birthday. She posted on her Instagram story and was bar hopping in Manhattan. Based on her Instagram, she partied at Fendrick Hotel, the SoHo Grande and Dream Downtown.
NY Daily News reports that her last video was posted at roughly 1 A.M. and a man in the video said, “It’s your birthday.”
McHenry’s birthday was on August 6. Johnson posted a sweet birthday message for McHenry on his Instagram. He wrote:
“Happy birthday to my best friend who has strutted with my in princess gowns since day 1 @lyric_leigh words cannot express how much I love and appreciate you in my life. Your constant love, respect and companionship gives me the confidence to live my truth every single day and I am so blessed that even as baby divas we recognized the greatness in each other. I love you ❤️ #leoseason #teamthis”
Before EJNYC, McHenry worked on Barack Obama’s campaign when she was just 15. When EJNYC ended McHenry went on to work as a producer for Complex Networks. She eventually became a freelance writer and producer in 2017.
