Tess Holliday is a model who is redefining what it means to be a plus-size woman in the industry. Holliday has worked hard to get to this level of modeling that she’s at right now.
Originally from Mississippi, Holliday went to a casting call for plus models at 15. She wasn’t selected and instead went into the beauty world. Holliday worked as a makeup and hair stylist for two years in Seattle. She moved back to Mississippi to give birth to her son, but then eventually found her way to Los Angeles in 2010.

While working a desk job in 2011, Holliday finally got some modeling gigs. She became the face of a Torrid ad and the A&E series Heavy. From there, her career began to snowball, and she got multiple other jobs.
She worked with Benefit Cosmetics, David LaChapelle and was featured in Vogue Italia and Nylon.
In 2014 she posted a viral video about body positivity called #everyBODYisflawless. The video featured Holliday, model Nadia Aboulhosn and blogger GabiFresh. The video was about body positivity and plus-size women being comfortable in their bodies.
The video shows the three women dancing to Beyonce’s song “Flawless.” It has been viewed more than 450,000 times.

After this video, in 2015, Holliday finally got signed to a modeling agency. She became Milk Model Management’s first size 20 model. Since then Holliday has been booked and busy.
Recently she became the cover star for Cosmopolitan UK‘s October 2018 cover.
“If I saw a body like mine on this magazine when I was a young girl, it would have changed my life & hope this does that for of y’all,” Holliday wrote on Instagram.

Holliday still advocates for body acceptance and representation. Recently she criticized a movie poster for the animated film Red Shoes and the 7 Dwarfs, a spin on Snow White. The poster text said, “What if Snow White was no longer beautiful and the 7 dwarfs not so short?”
The poster shows a tall, slender Snow White next to a shorter curvier Snow White, implying being short and fat is ugly.

Thanks to Holliday’s tweet, Chloe Grae Moretz who was the lead voice in the film tweeted about it as well, and the advertisement was pulled. The movie was supposed to come out in 2018.

The couple met in 2012 on Tumblr. Nick is an Australian businessman, photographer and artist. After talking online for seven months, Nick made the pilgrimage to the U.S. to meet Tess. They got engaged on July 5, 2014. In April 2015 Nick officially moved to the states and then in July they wed.
Tess and Nick have a son together. He was born in June 2016. Tess’s first son was born in 2005.
