Demi Lovato’s mom Dianna de la Garza just broke her silence on her daughter’s recent drug overdose that happened in July. Dianna talked to Newsmax TV talking about the emotional events that went down.
“It’s still a really difficult thing to talk about,” she stated. “I literally start to shake a little bit when I start to remember what happened that day.”
Dianna said over video chat that she was with her eldest daughter Dallas when she started receiving tons of texts from friends and loved ones giving their love and prayers. She had no idea what happened and that Demi overdosed. Eventually one of her friends asked her if what TMZ is reporting is true, but before she could check TMZ Demi’s assistant, Kelsey called her.
She said that Kelsey was rambling until Dianna told her to cut to the chase. The assistant then told her she overdosed. She knew Demi was “in trouble” when she asked Kelsey if Demi was okay and she responded, “She’s conscious, but not talking.”
Clearly shaken up recounting the event, Diana talks about how her daughter Dallas had to drive her to the hospital.
Once she got to the hospital she said Demi “was in bad shape,” but she told Demi she loved her. “My faith is strong, and I think that is what got me through the next couple of days when she was in critical condition,” she said. “We didn’t know for two days if she was going to make it.”

“I just feel like the reason she is alive today is because of the millions of prayers that went up that day when everybody found out what was happening,” Dianna said. “I don’t think she would be here if it hadn’t been for those prayers.”
On July 24 TMZ broke the news that Demi overdosed on Oxycodone laced with fentanyl. One of her assistants, we don’t know if it was Kelsey, found her unconscious in her bedroom. She was revived with Narcan and spent two weeks in the hospital.
After she was released and before she entered rehab, Demi posted a statement on Instagram. She thanked God and her fans for “your positive thoughts and prayers” and that she will be focusing on her sobriety.
