Halloween is a time for consuming candy, dressing as fictional characters and relentlessly scaring your friends. The events leading up to Halloween, like the haunted houses and scary movie releases, might be better than the actual night. Usually, Halloween night is either spent handing out candy or going to a costume party. This college freshman took it upon herself to give Halloween a twist by pranking her friends.
Remember the fear of walking through the halls of your local haunted house? The amount of convincing it took to tell yourself the figures screaming at you aren’t real? In this case, the scary figure is real and she’s in your house.
The Viral Prank
Makayla Rose Martinez, a freshman at York College, pulled a practical prank on October 25, 2018. Since posting the video, it has received over 2.2 million views. In the viral hit, Martinez dressed in a skeletal bodysuit with a complementing mask. She begins the video by creepily waving in a mirror with the extra long fingers due to her suit.
After, it jumps right into the good stuff. Most of the video involves her merely standing and her peers getting frightened but in the other parts she walks with a funky demeanor. Martinez later tweeted that the costume, Rake Skin, was purchased online from The Spirit Store.
Scripted Prank Or Spontaneous?
She decided to order the costume after seeing another viral video. The whole video was impromptu, which makes the prank that much funnier. Unfortunately, Martinez was kicked out of the building soon after taping due to her many scares.
In an interview with Time, Martinez said, “Once I ordered the costume I wasn’t even planning on making a video, but the footage my friend captured was too funny not to post.”
Hopefully, she’ll come out with more pranks for the upcoming holidays.
