Ariana Grande recently kicked off her Sweetener World Tour. During Monday show in Washington D.C., she was overcome with emotion at the end of the show.
Monday night marked the six year anniversary of the release of her first single “The Way” which she recorded with the late Mac Miller.
Grande didn’t sing the smash song at her concert, but when she had to sing Miller’s name during “thank u, next” she began to cry.
In a fan video from the show, you can hear Grande get emotional during Miller’s verse.

Grande was overcome with so much emotion she doesn’t sing most of the song. Thankfully her dancers are supportive and help her through the emotional moment.

Grande acknowledged her emotional performance and apologized to fans. “Thanks for accepting my humanness,” she tweeted. “It’s super emo and difficult singing some of these songs. But you make me smile.”
“I look like Penny Pingleton here,” Grande wrote referencing her former role in Hairspray Live. “I love u and thanks. I feel your warmth up there and it helps and is greatly appreciated.”

“The Way” was the first collaboration between Grande and Miller and made the two artists friends. That friendship blossomed into a relationship. They dated for nearly two years before splitting in May 2018.
Before the show, Grande posted on her Instagram story, “six years” with a heart, referring the anniversary. She then shared a photo of herself and Myron and turned off the comments on the post.
This isn’t the first time Miller came up during her Sweetener World Tour. During her opening concert in Albany, New York, she blasted Miller’s song “Dang!” before taking the stage.
Grande clearly is feeling all the feels and that’s okay!
