While everybody should enjoy this wonderful time of the year stressfree, it’s hard not to worry about those extra inches we usually deal with afterward. Here are seven tips to make sure you stay as healthy as possible this holiday season.
Staying home the whole weekend sounds compelling, but it’s often not the best option for your body. Being lazy surely won’t help you stay fit, plus there’s a high risk of continuous snacking on leftovers. Get active: have some fun outside with your friends, go skiing or just enjoy a long walk. Make sure you’re don’t get through, so dress appropriately.
Look for Balance
Holiday food can be so good tastewise, but it’s often not too great for your body. Fatty high-calorie meals can’t be the only thing you eat, even during Thanksgiving or Christmas, so try to make your diet as balanced as possible. Consume enough fruits and vegetables, protein and slow carbs.
Drink Lots of Water
Hydration is one of the most important things you can do to support your body during the holidays. It increases metabolism and helps get rid of toxins. Moreover, it keeps your skin moisturized, which is also super important in cold weather. Six to eight glasses of water should be enough for an average person.
Make a Workout Plan
A workout plan can be a real lifesaver, especially this time of the year. If you’re used to exercising regularly, keeping up shouldn’t be a problem at all. But if you’re not that active, try to get a few workouts per week to burn off those extra calories. It will be worth it when you fit into all your clothes just fine after the holidays.
Try to Avoid Overeating
This is probably the hardest recommendation, as the food during the holidays can be so irresistible. And when you get behind the dinner table, eating just one or two dishes is nearly impossible, you feel like you need to taste everything! Try slowing down a bit and consuming food in smaller portions, and your stomach will thank you for it.
Get Plenty of Rest
Parties during the holiday season are amazing, but it’s still important to get enough rest. This ensures your body has time to regenerate and deal with the consequences of those parties. Sleeping 6 to 8 hours is essential for our bodies, and if you don’t always follow this rule, try to do so at least now.
Enjoy the Holidays
The most important thing during the holidays is to enjoy them! The world won’t end even if you stay up all night or overeat once in a while. Make sure you’re happy with your holiday regime, but trying to stay a bit healthier definitely won’t hurt. After all, life is all about balance, so that’s what you should be looking for.
