The Best Netflix Shows to Binge on this Christmas

As well as being a wonderful time to connect with friends and loved ones, the festive holiday season is also perfect for kicking back and relaxing. And what better way to do that than to indulge in a brilliant series or two?! Luckily, there are plenty of amazing shows and series to watch right now, so we have come up with a list of some of the best so that you don’t miss a single thing.

Selena: The Series (2020)

The Walking Dead’s Christian Serratos stars in this role of a lifetime about the famous singer Selena who tragically died at the age of 25. This tender biography portrays the challenges they faced as they tried to start a band. Treading the line between heartfelt and witty, the series is a beautifully poignant look into the life of a star with the voice of an angel. The first nine episodes will be shown on Netflix this month, with the second half of the series coming next year.

A Very Murray Christmas (2015)

Whether you’re hosting the perfect holiday party or planning a quiet season at home, A Very Murray Christmas is a brilliant musical comedy that will leave you feeling the festive cheer. Directed by Sofia Coppola and starring a glittering cast, this Christmas special pairs Bill Murray’s trademark wry humor and festive songs so brilliantly that it will probably become an annual staple for years to come.

Bridgerton (2020)

Historical romances might not be top of your list this Christmas, but Bridgerton is one of those beautifully made series that may just change your mind. If you haven’t yet heard of the Julia Quinn Bridgerton novels, then you are in for a treat. Now translated into 29 languages, these books are something of a cultural phenomenon, closely followed by the stunning depiction on screen by the Bridgerton cast. One to watch while you’re tucking into Christmas pudding.

The Christmas Chronicles 1 and 2 (2018 and 2020)

Tapping into that 90’s nostalgia that is so prevalent at the moment, The Christmas Chronicles stars Kurt Russell as Santa Claus in a festive film series that will warm you from the inside out. Although the story has been told a thousand times already, these movies have a humor and friendliness to them that make them feel like old friends. Goldie Hawn stars as Mrs. Claus, and Julian Dennison stars as Belsnickel, in the festive franchise which is set to return with a third installment next year.

The Queen’s Gambit (2020)

Undoubtedly one of the most popular shows on Netflix at the moment, The Queen’s Gambit tells the story of a brilliant chess player, who also happens to be a woman. The seven-episode series follows Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy) who transforms from a down and out orphan to a glamorous and impressively skilled outcast who sets out to conquer the male-dominated world of competitive chess. Inspired by the 1983 Walter Tevis novel, the series left a number of scenes on the cutting room floor in order to deliver a slick and mesmerizing show that has been enjoyed by more than 62 million households around the globe so far.

The Prom (2020)

Featuring an all-star cast of Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, and James Corden, it doesn’t get more glitzy or glam than The Prom. Dee Dee Allen (Meryl Streep) and Barry Clickman (James Corden) are Broadway stars whose latest show completely flops, taking their careers down with it. After learning of the perfect cause to help resurrect their careers, they join forces with another pair of failed actors to achieve the impossible. Little do they know that their celebrity activism will backfire, with unexpected consequences.

Whether you’re looking for festive cheer or binge-worthy dramas, there is plenty to watch this Christmas. Just make sure you stock up on those mince pies before you settle in for the evening!
