Decades have given us dozens of cinematic takes on the Cinderella fable. The outcast ugly duckling is transformed and revealed to be a stunningly beautiful swan. In order to hide someone being so beautiful, what have the cinematic geniuses of Hollywood come up with to convince us that the starlets are just background faces in the crowd? Well, the idea of the makeover has evolved. And while there are a few exceptions where the transformation was truly earned, here are about a dozen that one could argue are insulting, to the average person’s intelligence, sight, and has distorted the standard of beauty in popular culture.
So what have we learned? Long hair is ugly. Glasses are ugly. Braces make you repellent. The more skin you show, the prettier you are. Everyone has to wear make up.
