There’s a whole new reason we should go back to referring to Voldemort as “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.” Turns out, we’ve been pronouncing his name incorrectly for almost two decades! Harry Potter author JK Rowling confirmed on Twitter that the “t” at the end of Voldemort’s name is actually silent.
@Universe_Box One piece of Harry Potter trivia I always forget to mention: the "t" is silent in Voldemort, according to @jk_rowling.

… but I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who pronounces it that way. https://t.co/HxhJ5XY5HP

Rowling isn’t just throwing this out there to feel stupid – there’s a meaning behind it (of course). The french word ‘mort,’ pronounced with a silent T, means death.
Feeling kind of silly right about now? Us too. Until we remember that everyone in the movies also said it that way. The one person who was saying the Dark Lord’s name correctly was Jim Dale, the narrator of the U.S. Potter audiobooks, who pronounced it the way Rowling imagined.
