Recently, 25-year-old Gayle Newland from Willaston, Cheshire in the UK has been convicted of sexual assault after she pretended to be a man so she could trick her female friend into having sex with her.
Newland got close to her victim by creating a fake Facebook profile as a man named “Kye Fortune.” She bound her chest and wore a hat to disguise her appearance. Gayle had been dating her victim for two years and would make her wear a blindfold or close her eyes whenever they were together – even when they got intimate – because “he” was insecure about the scars that came from recovering from a brain tumor.
The victim stated,
Every time I met up with Kye Fortune, I either had the mask on already or he would wait outside the door and I would put it on. I was so desperate to be loved. It’s pathetic, so desperate for love, so desperate.”
The victim only realized who Kye really was after she took of her blindfold during one of their meetings, only to find that Newland was wearing a prosthetic penis. On the other hand, Newland claims that the victim always known who Kye Fortune really was, stating they were both struggling with their sexuality and experimenting with role-play.
She has been convicted of three counts of sexual assault but she has been cleared of 2 other counts of sexual assault. Newland was bailed out of jail until her sentencing in November. She was told she cannot contact the victim and not to contact anyone under a fake identity. The judge said the Probation Service and a psychiatrist would see Gayle as part of the pre-sentence report. The jury has already begun deliberations on the case.
