If you’re having a bad morning, this video is sure to cheer you up.
This grandmother was handed lyrics to Drake and Future’s song, “Jumpman” and quickly became frustrated and confused. She does a dry reading of the lyrical content, questioning “who is Mutombo” and stating that “Chi-town, chi-town…sounds Chinese, especially since it ends up with ‘woo!’.”
As a half-Chinese woman, I’m in tears. As an indie rock fan, I’m just as confused as the grandmother in the video.
She’s particularly perplexed by the lyrics “Dopeman, dopeman, dopeman,” and shouting that “[her] husband had to take dopeman when he had a heart attack. D-O-P-E-M-A-N.” The man behind the camera helpfully informs her that the drug is actually “dopamine.”
She knows that “Drake is smart” and knows exactly who he is, saying that “This is not Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet. That’s Drake and Future.”
Can someone do a mash-up of her reading and the “Jumpman” instrumentals?
