'Secret Life' Creator Revealed What Happened After The Finale & It's Basically Fan Fiction

Last week, we saw pictures of The Secret Life of the American Teenager unofficial reunion at the wedding of Megan Parks aka cheerleader Grace Bowman who thought losing her virginity is what killed her father. She wed One Tree Hill’s Tyler Hilton who played the love-to-hate yet hate-to-love Chris Keller. Honestly, did anyone know these two were together?

This reunion brought back the question of what happened to Ricky and Amy. No matter where you stopped watching this series – many of us leaving during season two – we all wanted Ricky and Amy to end up together. The writers left us off with Amy leaving John and Ricky to go to school in New York. The last scene of the series was Ricky reading a story to John and saying, “And she lived happily ever after. And so will we.” Even if you weren’t watching, you heard about it on social media and were left thinking, “WTF, Amy?”
We no longer have to think that anymore thanks to a recent interview that MTV had with series creator Brenda Hampton. Here’s what happened to the characters.
Warning: it is so incredibly happy-go-lucky that I can’t help but think she put literally no thought into the aftermath until this interview.

Ricky and Amy

Ricky and John, along with her father George, moved to Brooklyn to be with Amy. According to Hampton, “The cross-country travel while taking on college was just too stressful for Amy, but no one wanted to see her abandon her dreams so everyone came to her.” Ben’s dad Leo also hooks up Ricky with literally everything he’d need in New York from finding a job and apartment to getting John into a good school. Ricky and Amy eventually graduate and get married and live happily ever after. Amy becomes a documentary filmmaker and Ricky is opening a “high end fast food chain” with Leo. George also weirdly moves in across the hall from them and according to Hampton, they were apparently thrilled.

Ben

He and Amy both went to New York at the same time. Before Ricky moved there to be with Amy, she was dating Ben again. The two of them finally had sex and apparently it was awful. They had no connection, which everyone always knew except for them. They were the cliche couple who like the idea of ending up with the person they dated in high school. He wrote a bestseller (about Amy, of course) while in college and continues to pursue a doctorate in literature.

Grace

She’s a med student at NYU and just happily living close to her friends. Basically, Grace is still as boring as ever. Her mother, Kathleen, and brother, Tom, are also in New York. She is a church fundraiser on the Upper East Side and he’s a doorman.

Jack and Madison

These two got married, and honestly, they made so much sense in the few episodes I saw with them as a couple. They’re also in New York like everyone else because they never had an original thought of their own. She’s on Broadway and he’s a coach.

Adrian

She is married to Omar and they have two children together. They are the most financially successful even though she’s still in law school and he’s in doing something in education (vague?). I’m guessing they’re the only ones who didn’t end up in New York. Not surprising since Adrian hated everyone most of the time and vice versa.
Before you begin to wonder, Hampton slammed any revival for the show and basically said it’s because of Shailene Woodley being too successful. So no, there won’t be a Secret Life of a New York Adult any time soon.
