Chandler Bing is a favorite TV character for many, but actor Matthew Perry barely remembers shooting parts of the hit Friends series due to his substance abuse issues.

During a recent interview with BBC Radio 2, he was asked which episode of Friends was his least favorite. He answered, “Oh my goodness. I think the answer is I don’t remember three years of it. So none of those … somewhere between season three and six.” He then added, “A little bit of the time, I was a little out of it, yeah…Anyway, my answer to your question is somewhere between seasons three and six.”

The actor has been open about his demons, telling People magazine in 2013 that he became hooked on prescription meds after being given pills in 1997 following a Jet Ski accident. He told the mag that he “had a big problem with pills and alcohol” and “couldn’t stop.”

Business Insider reports Perry attended rehab twice during the filming of Friends, attributing the stints to prescription pain medication and alcohol abuse. Though he was never “high at work,” he admitted to being “painfully hungover” much of the time.

Luckily, it seems that he’s doing much better today. Unluckily, he won’t be a part of the Friends reunion airing on February 21 on NBC due to stage acting commitments in London.
