Even though the Oscars are a night for celebration, Best Song nominee Lady Gaga is remembering why she’s there…and the people who helped her along the way.
Gaga revealed in 2014 that she was raped at the age of 19 by someone 20 years older than her, and from her experiences wrote the song “Till It Happens to You” with Diane Warren for The Hunting Ground, a documentary about sexual assault on college campuses in the U.S.
She took a break from the glitz and glamour of the awards show to give a shout out to her fiancé Taylor Kinney on Instagram. Lady Gaga captioned the photo of the couple sharing a kiss, “I never thought anyone would ever love me because I felt like my body was ruined by my abuser. But he loves the survivor in me. He’s stood by me all night proud and unashamedly. THATS a real man.”
Lady Gaga also recognized Kesha earlier in the evening, who Gaga was been heavily supporting as she goes through a legal battle with producer Dr. Luke, a man Kesha alleges abused her mentally and physically.
.@kesharose I'll be thinking of u 2nite. This is not over we'll stand by u until you are free to live a HAPPY life. Everyone deserves that.
