Permanent Tattoos That Can Be Removed Without A Laser Are In The Works

I loved temporary tattoos as a kid. My arms were covered in Lisa Frank body art and I dreamed about what I would get for real when I was older. Now I’m 25 and have zero tats. While I still admire other people’s body art, I know myself too well – if I can’t stay in an apartment for longer than a year, how do I expect myself to love a permanent design the rest of my life? Sure, there are ways to get a tattoo removed, but those lasers are painful and expensive.

If you’re like me, we may be in luck. Chemical engineers from NYU are currently working to develop a type of ink they call “Ephemeral.” It’s permanent, but there’s also a solution that removes the tattoo to complement it, meaning you can decide years or decades later that it’s time for the body art to go.

Now don’t run out and get your boyfriend’s name inked on your arm in a heart. The ink is still in the works, and there’s no word on when it will be ready to go or the price. Still, this is a great option for those of us who have commitment issues. Stay tuned!
