Were you recently aggravated when Netflix decided to boost its monthly subscription price? You were not alone. One customer got so upset that he decided to sue the company.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a customer proposed a class action lawsuit against Netflix this week because he said he was promised to be “grandfathered in,” meaning that he would keep paying $7.99 every month. George Keritsis claims that he saw an advertisement that said the $7.99 rate was guaranteed. He called a customer service representative who confirmed that he would be grandfathered in.
He decided to continue subscribing to Netflix, but by October 2012, his rate increased to $8.68. By June 2016, it went up to $9.99 every month.
Keritsis said that he then called Netflix’s customer service line. The representative said that they could see that his account was “grandfathered in,” but then explained that the company was raising prices for all accounts – including his.
He is now suing Netflix for breach of contract – and wants to make it a class action suit in order to represent all account holders like him.
Netflix has yet to respond to his lawsuit. However, if Kerisis gets what he wants, you may be one of the millions of Netflix subscribers who will get a few extra bucks in your pocket.
