Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose to keep the identity of the mutual friend who introduced them private, but the secret is out.
The matchmaker has been speculated to be fashion designer Misha Nonoo or Markus Anderson (who was by Markle’s side when she attended the Invictus Games in Toronto), but a new report from E! News says both predictions are wrong. Instead, it was Violet von Westenholz, a childhood friend of Harry’s who became friends with Meghan through her work in PR at Ralph Lauren.
An insider told the outlet,
“Meghan had been a part of the London social scene for a while and had slotted into the high society set really easily. And so when Harry told Violet he was having trouble finding someone, Violet said she might just have the perfect girl for him.”
von Westenholz’s father is a baron and friend of Prince Charles (Harry’s dad, for those unfamiliar with the royals’ family tree), and she has “been in Harry’s trusted inner circle of friends for years.”
Fun fact: her younger sister, Victoria, was once romantically linked to Harry.
From there, we know most of the love story. Harry and Markle went on a blind date in summer 2016, then met up again before vacationing together in Botswana.
Take that, Patti Stanger.
By November 2017, Prince Harry had popped the question and now we will have an American princess come May.
So I guess what we’re all trying to say is…Hey, Violet — have any other royal friends who are single?
