Shania Twain found herself in hot water after an interview with The Guardian was published of her saying she would have voted for Trump.
The Canadian born country singer said, “I would have voted for [Trump] because, even though he was offensive, he seemed honest. Do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn’t be able to have both. If I were voting, I just don’t want bullshit. I would have voted for a feeling that it was transparent. And politics has a reputation of not being that, right?”
Her sentiments caused a significant backlash because a lot of her fanbase is gay. So much of Trump’s politics is attacking the LGBT+ community, so if Twain would have voted for him, that’s aligning herself with his politics.

The “Shania Twain is canceled” internet party was so intense that Twain tweeted a statement on the same day of the Trump quote going viral.
“I would like to apologize to anybody I have offended in a recent interview with the Guardian relating to the American President,” she tweeted. “The question caught me off guard. As a Canadian, I regret answering this unexpected question without giving my response more context.”
