Pom Klementieff is a French-Canadian actress most known for her role as Mantis in the Marvel Franchise Series. She moved to Hollywood in 2014 after her first role in Hollywood in Spike Lee’s Oldboy. Klementieff is of half Korean, half French and Russian descent and her mother named her Pom because it sounded similar to the Korean words for “spring” and “tiger.” Today, the 31-year-old actress resides in Los Angeles.

Klementieff was born in Quebec, Canada to a Korean mother and French-Russian father. She grew up with a brother. He committed suicide on her 25th birthday. As a child, Klementieff lived in Canada for a year before moving to Japan, the Ivory Coast and then France for her father who was a consul for the French government that traveled frequently. At the age of five, her father died of cancer and her mother, who was schizophrenic was unable to care for her and her brother. She was raised by her paternal uncle and aunt in Paris. She began acting at the age of 19 at the French drama school, Cours Florent.

Klementieff’s first film was a French independent film, Apres Lui in 2017. She appeared in multiple French films like Delicacy and The Easy Way after this prior to her relocation to Los Angeles, CA.

Klementieff’s American film debut was Spike Lee’s Oldboy, a remake of a South Korean martial arts film. Klementieff took boxing and martial arts lessons to prepare for the role. After the film was completed she continued to take taekwondo lessons and currently holds a purple belt.
In 2015, Klementieff appeared in the film Hacker’s Game as a hacker named Loise. Due to the film’s low budget, she did her own makeup and chose her own wardrobe.

In 2017, Klementieff first appeared as the role of Mantis is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which raked in over $860 million at the box office worldwide. In an article with W magazine, Klementieff told them she had always been a huge fan of the Marvel franchise movies and her dream was to play an alien in a Marvel movie.
In 2017, Klementieff appeared in the move Ingrid Goes West with her fellow Avengers costar, Elizabeth Olsen.
