Times Up Now was launched on January 1. It’s an organization devoted to helping women in the aftermath of sexual abuse launched. The organization, which includes more than 300 women working in various facets of the entertainment industry, was founded in October 2017 as a response to the continued accounts of sexual misconduct allegedly committed by Harvey Weinstein. At the time of their formation, the members explained that they planned to address continued gender inequality and disparity occurring in Hollywood.
The organization hasn’t slowed down one bit, rap artist R. Kelly has been the center of sexual misconduct for allegedly having his own sex cult with younger age girls all these years and holding them captive, which made headlines back in June 2017. Almost a year after that this was first being reported and this whole cult has been going on for some years.
Earlier, Kelly addressed those rumors in an interview with Ebony.com he said that the women are “consenting adults.”
On Monday, Times Up Now is seeking action from RCA Records (Kelly’s label), Spotify, Apple Music and Ticketmaster. Their statement, which is signed by industry members including Ava DuVerny, Shonda Rhimes, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell called for action, writing:
“We demand appropriate investigations and inquiries into the allegations of R.Kelly’s abuse made by women and their families for more than two decades now. And we declare with great vigilance and a united voice to anyone who wants to silence us -their time is up.”
We join the call to #MuteRKelly and insist on the safety + dignity of all women. We demand investigations into R. Kelly’s abuse allegations made by women of color + their families for two decades. We call on those who profit from his music to cut ties. #MuteRKelly #TIMESUP #WOC pic.twitter.com/TYmDRVIH00

Later, Jurnee further explained the group’s decision to take action in a statement to the Associated Press. “We stand linked with our sisters and will no longer tolerate the predatory behavior of R. Kelly to go unchecked. This is a call to action to #MuteRKelly. His music must be turned down, and the voices of these brave survivors must be heard,” she said.
On April 30, the Chicago Tribune reported that R. Kelly’s scheduled April 27 appearance at a music festival at in Chicago had been canceled. The musician addressed the cancellation in a post to his Instagram Stories on April 29, saying, “I’ve never heard of a show being canceled because of rumors, but I guess there’s a first time for everything.”

Teen Vogue requested for R. Kelly’s team for comment with a statement about Time’s up for investigation. The statement reads in full:
“R. Kelly supports the pro-women goals of the Time’s Up movement. We understand criticizing a famous artist is a good way to draw attention to those goals — and in this case, it is unjust and off-target. We fully support the rights of women to be empowered to make their own choices. Time’s Up has neglected to speak with any of the women who welcome R. Kelly’s support, and it has rushed to judgment without the facts. Soon it will become clear Mr. Kelly is the target of a greedy, conscious and malicious conspiracy to demean him, his family and the women with whom he spends his time. R. Kelly’s music is a part of an American and African-American culture that should never — and will never — be silenced. Since America was born, black men and women have been lynched for having sex or for being accused of it. We will vigorously resist this attempted public lynching of a black man who has made extraordinary contributions to our culture.”
With that I’ll leave you with this:
