It’s officially Pride month, and members of the LGBTQ+ community are gearing up to celebrate all month long. Ready to spread awareness and celebrate with tons of activities and events across the country, one event that always manages to make headlines, is the annual Pride Parade. Described as being equally unique and unified, this year’s theme is focused on defiance. Titled, “Defiantly Different,” the 2018 theme is meant to be an “unflinching stance” in response to the Trump administration’s treatment of the LGBTQ+ community, according to organizers.
“This year’s theme is about showing our power, squaring our shoulders in the face of adversity, and continuing to sculpt that magnetic bond within the LGBTQ+ community and our allies,” David Studinski, NYC Pride co-chair, said in a statement. “The corresponding creative showcases a wide selection of defiantly different community members — from performance artists to mental health advocates. We are standing defiantly — defiantly different and defiantly as one.”
