Serena Williams has finally met her match. The pro tennis player and one of the world’s most famous athletes recently announced her engagement to a man who prefers to spend most of his time off of the court and behind a computer screen.
Williams accepted Alexis Ohanian’s proposal after over a year of dating. Ohanian is the founder of the popular website Reddit.com, and Williams took to a fitting platform, the website’s proposal forum, r/isaidyes, to share her exciting announcement.
“I came home/A little late/Someone had a bag packed for me/And a carriage awaited/Destination: Rome/To escort me to my very own ‘charming’/Back to where our stars first collided/And now it was full circle/At the same table we first met by chance/This time he made it not by chance/But by choice/Down on one knee/He said 4 words/And/r/isaidyes.”
Ohanian replied on his own account saying, “And you made me the happiest man on the planet.”
The proposal happened as they were vacationing together in Rome, according to a spokesperson for Ohanian. Ohanian also linked to Williams’ post in a Facebook update with the simple caption, “She said yes.”
The engagement was a bit of a surprise to some, as Williams and Ohanian tend to be fairly private about their romance, only occasionally posing for pictures together. They have been together since the fall of 2015.
Williams has dated some much more high-profile men in the past, including the rappers Common and Drake.
Now it looks as though Serena Williams has found a doubles partner for life. Congratulations to the happy couple!
