It’s 7:45 am. You’re laying in bed, staring at the ceiling, and toying with the idea of skipping your 8:30 lecture, again – the struggle is real. We’ve all been there; having that internal struggle and willing ourselves to get the hell out of bed. Unfortunately, some mornings, it’s easier said than done. On days when motivation is in short supply, a quick, wake-up yoga session may be just what you need to get started with your morning!
Regardless of how much of a morning person you are, how well you respond to caffeine, or whether you actually got a full eight hours of sleep the night before, there will always be days when you’d wish staying in bed was an option. Throw in the added potential of pulling an all-nighter or stressing over boyfriend/roommate/financial drama, and you’ve built a strong case for postponing the start to your day. But as experience has proven, skipping lectures or lounging around in bed all day as opposed to being productive is a huge no-no in the world of success and sanity. So what do you do?
It may not be the most obvious choice, but a quick yoga session right after waking up can truly transform the rest of your day. Aside from the fact that any dose of exercise will wake you up by kick-starting your metabolism, starting your day with a few minimally intense moves will improve your focus and alertness. With less intensity than a cardio workout, doing a few simple yoga poses won’t require much preparation on your end. You also won’t work up a sweat or take too much time away from your morning routine. The added surge of adrenaline and endorphins will make you feel more awake, improve your mood, and give you some much-needed motivation to take on the day, while also giving you an extra boost of energy to get you moving. Overall, setting aside just a few minutes to do yoga first thing in the morning will set you up for a day of success.
Here are six easy yoga moves to help you start your morning so you can be more productive throughout the day!
These simple poses are extremely easy to execute, and don’t require too much concentration on functionality – which we are most likely lacking in the early morning. Plus, this routine only requires a few minutes to complete: extend the time you spend on each pose when you have room in your schedule, or cut some short if you’re running late. Even when you wake up refreshed and ready to tackle your day, taking a few minutes to wake up with yoga will definitely help kick-start your day and motivate you to get stuff done!
