Ten years ago seems like a different lifetime entirely. Yes, it was back when we were all surviving without Instagram and an iPhone in our pockets at all times (you know you were in love with your RAZR), if you can even process a time where that was a reality.
Though now we’re listening via Spotify rather than an iPod mini, some of our favorite music is still coming from the same artists as a decade ago. At the 2006 Grammy Awards Beyonce was nominated as both with Destiny’s Child and as a solo artist, while Kanye West‘s “Gold Digger” got everyone’s attention, and Gwen Stefani had several nominations from her album Love. Angel. Music. Baby.
A decade later and we just witnessed Beyonce slay the Super Bowl 50 halftime show, Kanye West is due to release a new album tomorrow, and Gwen Stefani just teased new music with a track list of songs.
See? Some things don’t change.
Since the 2016 Grammys air in just a few days, I thought it would be fun to see what the biggest night in music looked like a full decade ago. Short answer: way different, and terrible fashion choices (looking at you, Christina Milian). Where were the Fashion Police when it really counted? Anyway, check out your favorite singers from way back when.
