If you liked the viral video of that bride and her bridesmaids dancing to a Beyoncé tribute, then you’ll definitely love this one. Recent bride Mikayla Ellison Phillips and her father, Nathan Ellison, decided to step up a notch when it came to the traditional father-daughter dance at the reception. The result: a funky, groovy, incredibly awesome choreography that had Ellison’s wedding guests cheering.
At the Utah wedding last month, approximately 400 friends and family members look on as Ellison and her father began their father-daughter dance in a more traditional style, to Bob Carlisle’s “Butterfly Kisses”. But all of a sudden comes a record scratch and a music change. The pair break out their sunglasses and perform fun choreography to a huge mashup of songs, including MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This,” LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem,” and more. We won’t spoil the dance, so watch it here:
Ellison, 25, explained to Good Morning America that she’s a trained dancer and has performed her entire life. Her father, however, works in sales and computer technology and has no formal dance training. Which makes his enthusiastic performance that much more endearing. .
The duo had talked about putting together a dance for years before her wedding. They spent the week choreographing the dance and rehearsing for their surprise performance. Ellison’s now-husband Cody had edited and mashed up the music for them. Ellison told Good Morning America that the best thing about doing the dance at her wedding was seeing how happy her dad was. “That was a dream fulfilled,” she said.
So, can we make breaking out into surprise dances a wedding tradition now?
