After some time in rehab for depression and anxiety, Selena Gomez is back and feeling good. She made her first public appearance at the American Music Awards in months this past Sunday where, after winning the Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, her honest speech touched the hearts of many. Gomez is comfortable talking about her physical health as well as her emotional vulnerability, as demonstrated in her interview with Elle Magazine. And boy, did she reveal an unusual health secret.
Gomez first admits that she is actually terrible when it comes to working out. “I’m one of those people who’s like, ‘Ah, I ran for five minutes. I think I’m good,'” she explained – maybe stars really are just like us. So Gomez has been working hard with her trainer, Amy Rosoff Davis, to keep up a routine and keep her motivated: “I wanted to be healthy; I wanted to feel good. I just wanted to make sure I was the best I could be for the show and for my fans.”
So the duo have worked on exercises the pop star could do in order to enjoy working out. Beyond hikes and Pilates, Gomez reveals, “I have a sweat bed, which looks like a burrito that I wrap myself up in, and I sweat for about 45 minutes.”
Um, what?
Apparently, a sweat bed is the new beauty hack. Gomez goes to the Shape House, where “you lay in these beds in a sweatsuit, and they wrap you up and you sweat for 45 minutes and it releases all the toxins of your body,” she described. According to her, it feels similar to a sauna except that it accelerates your heart rate. Gomez swears by it: “I know it sounds gross, but you just sit in your sweat for an hour and don’t immediately shower because there’s natural collagen in your toxins that it actually makes your skin feel softer before you wash it all off. It feels incredible.”
You’re right, Selena. It does sound gross. But it clearly works, since the celeb pretty much always has flawless skin.
It’s a better method than other advice Gomez has gotten in the past. She doesn’t understand the idea of wearing tinted moisturizer or self-tanner to bed. “For me, I just think that’s not my vibe, plus I do breakout…For me, I can’t really sleep with things on my body or tinted things just because I get worried. It’s not my vibe,” she tells Elle. But even when she does break out, Gomez says she doesn’t freak out about it. She knows that it’s just life and doesn’t see the point in making a huge deal over a pimple.
All we know is that we have to try a sweat bed ASAP if it helps us look slightly closer to Selena Gomez.
