Cardi B has officially made it to the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100. This is literally history in the making, as Cardi B is the first female rapper to make it to the number one spot without a feature since Lauryn Hill in 1998. That’s 19 years since a black woman has made it to the top spot without anyone’s help.
The song’s history-making turn exemplifies the struggle for so many black and Afro-Latina women in the industry. “Bodak Yellow” shows women everywhere that the world is changing. Black women are starting to make “money moves” and are finally getting the recognition they deserve.
Cardi B was emotional as she took in the honor with her team, including her friends and family.
