Here’s How You Can Celebrate National Pancake Day While Living On Campus

It’s that time of year of year again. No, I’m not talking about falling leaves or sleigh bells. Tuesday, September 25 marks National Pancake Day, not to be confused with IHOP’s National Pancake Day, which is a holiday for charity. This National Pancake Day is all about celebrating pancakes, from how they’re made to how they’re decorated, and the best way to celebrate is to make your own.┬áHere is the easiest and most college-savvy way to make pancakes in your residence hall.

Most dorm rooms don’t come fully equipped with a stove-top or oven, so for this pancake recipe the only appliance you’ll need is a microwave, as well as a microwave-safe mug or cup. Although microwaveable pancakes won’t win you the prettiest pancakes of the day award, they will allow you to join in on the festivities with your own unique creations and they’re tasty.

Microwaveable Pancake Recipe

  • A microwave.
  • A microwave-safe mug.
  • 1/4 C. of pancake mix. Only use that which requires water.
  • Water.

Toppings (optional)

  • Peaches.
  • Chocolate chips.
  • Macadamia nuts.
  • Syrup.
  • Sprinkles.
  • Nuts.
  • Berries.

Step 1: Add the pancake mix into the mug first, then add water until it’s about half full.

Step 2: Stir the mixture until it’s smooth and fold your toppings into the top of the mixture.

Step 3: Microwave on high for two minutes or until it sets. You can even add more toppings after microwaving to top it off. Just make sure to microwave it again for 30-60 seconds for it to set.

If you’re really looking to get fancy, Refinery29 has a great pancake recipe┬áthat’s a little bit more complex.

Now that you have your dorm-approved pancakes, you can take on National Pancake Day with pride. Eat up!
