Thanksgiving 2017: Is Mail Delivered On Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving always comes at one of the best times of the year. The weather is transitioning, the leaves turn a crisp orange and red, and the holiday signifies the looming of Christmas and New Year’s. It can also be a stressful time, as families plan get-togethers and prepare to feast. Before you get too caught up in the festivities, make sure you find out if mail delivers on Thanksgiving day in case you’re expecting an important delivery or letter.

Does The United States Deliver Mail On Thanksgiving?

It’ll be a postal holiday on November 23, so no snail mail will be delivered today. Make sure to plan ahead in sending any time-sensitive mail, because post offices will close early and Fedex offices will close at 6:00 P.M. on the 22. For Fedex deliveries, all services will be closed on Thanksgiving except for Custom Critical.

If you’re expecting anything, you’ll receive it the following day, on Friday, but expect delays as the system could become backed up.

Some additional holidays on which mail is not delivered include:

  • Labor Day
  • Independence Day
  • President’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Veterans Day
