When is Lena Dunham not messing up?
Yes, we’re all human and we all make mistakes, but it seems that Lena Dunham has made a habit of screwing up on a colossal scale. Despite touting herself as the face of feminism (read: white feminism) and constantly boasting of the rigidity of her beliefs, it seems that generally, Lena Dunham spends most of her time saying absurdly bizarre/hypocritical/offensive things, claiming them as her beliefs and then subsequently retracting them.
As time has gone on, its surpassed the human condition of imperfection and become absurd. The latest Lena Dunham apology reached peak Dunham apology after a scandal involving her friend and coworker Murray Miller
For the full story of the allegations and the fallout, read here. To put it summarily, after actress Aurora Perrineau accused Miller of rape, most people thought that Dunham, who’d been outspoken about her stance in regards to sexual harassment and victims’ rights, would stand behind Perrineau and admonish Miller.
Instead, Dunham released a statement that claimed Perrineau was a liar and then tweeted this load of BS.
I believe in a lot of things but the first tenet of my politics is to hold up the people who have held me up, who have filled my world with love.

Eventually, Dunham apologized. Her beliefs had apparently fundamentally changed from the previous “tenets” and this was added to the ever-expanding string of annoying Lena Dunham apologies.

Because Twitter is a gem, one social media user decided to highlight the hilariousness of Dunham’s debacles. Voila, the ‘Lena Dunham Apologizes’ apology generator was created. The account skewers Dunham’s habit of doing ridiculously obviously offensive things and apologizing for them. It’s actually LOL-worthy in ways that Girls was not.

Honestly, Lena Dunham probably won’t stop messing up anytime soon, because she is both human AND just kind of ridiculous, but at least Twitter can turn something frustrating and serious like victim-shaming and false feminism into a good old laugh with a clever 280 characters or less.
