Galentine’s Day, February 13, is the day before Valentine’s Day that you get to celebrate your lady friends. To be honest, you should be celebrating your lady friends every day, but Galentine’s Day is just an easy excuse to go full out for your gal pals.
This sacred fictional holiday was created by Amy Poehler‘s character on Parks and Recreation, Leslie Knope. It’s a day where Leslie rounds up all of her female friends for brunch and showers them with super personalized gifts, pillows and more. “Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair minus the angst, plus frittatas,” in the words of Knope.
Now lady friends everywhere celebrate their friendship and each other on February 13. They may not be eating breakfast food or giving each other handcrafted mosaics of each other’s faces, but it’s a special day.
Parks and Rec has unfortunately been off the air since February 2015. But this year the ladies of Parks and Rec reunited for Galentine’s Day and it’ll hit you right in the feels.
Aubrey Plaza, who played April Ludgate-Dwyer, originally shared the 2018 Galentine’s Day selfie. The selfie, of course, has Poehler in it along with Rashida Jones, who played Ann Perkins and Kathryn Han, who played the fierce campaign manager Jennifer Barkley.
Plaza captioned the photo, “happy happy galentine’s day. these women keep me alive.” Jones also shared the selfie declaring, “Galentine’s Day! Forever and ever,” adorned with many heart emojis.
Knowing that the ladies from the show also celebrate Galentine’s Day, and celebrate it together, is almost too much. Galentine’s Day should be a national holiday.
