The Cash Me Outside Girl Is Nominated For A Billboard Music Award & Twitter Is Not Happy

Maybe you remember the 2016 viral Dr. Phil video of a 13-year-old Danielle Bregoli yelling at her mom and saying the phrase, “cash me outside, how ’bout dah?” The video has over 46 million views and became a meme months later.

Now the cash me outside girl is 15 and has capitalized on her meme fame and became a rapper called, Bhad Bhabie.

Everyone joked that her rap career would be short-lived, but now the jokes on them because Bhad Bhabie has been nominated for a Billboard Music Award alongside Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.

Twitter was confused, distraught and upset that a teenager who came to fame for threatening to fight her mom on Dr. Phil and became a meme was nominated alongside prominent female rappers. It’s not like people don’t like female rappers who are outspoken, Cardi B has had a crazy successful year. If you took a poll on the streets and asked strangers to name three popular female rappers do you think any of them would say Bhad Bhabie? Probably not, and they would probably name Nicki and Cardi before they would even think of Bhad Bhabie.

Twitter couldn’t wrap its head around her BBMA nomination. Why is she nominated? How is she nominated? Why are we living in an alternative universe? Are all questions that are plaguing Twitter feeds everywhere.

Even though Bhad Bhabie seems like an abnormal and maybe offensive nomination, Billboard didn’t just nominate her for attention or “buzz.” The reality of the BBMA is that the nominations are based on the Billboard music charts. Even if people “joked” listened to her, Bhad Bhabie charted. Her first single “These Heaux” reached number 77 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

Her Hot 100 entry made her the youngest female rap artist to debut on the music charts. Her second single, “Hi Bitch” reached number 68 on the Hot 100 chart. She released a music video of a mash-up of “Hi Bitch” and her third single “Wachu Know.” The video accumulated three million views in a day and now has a total of over 89 million views. She has since collaborated with many artists including Lil Yachty.

Bhad Bhabie charted this past year multiple times so it makes sense why she was nominated for a BBMA.
