Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement Meghan’s family has been scrutinized by tabloids. Now it’s believed that Meghan’s dad, Thomas Markle won’t be attending the royal wedding because it was found out that paparazzi photos of him were staged.
TMZ reports that Thomas won’t be walking his daughter down the aisle because he doesn’t want to embarrass her or the royal family. It recently came out that Thomas staged those photos of him googling Meghan and Harry’s engagement.
He told TMZ that the photos look “stupid and hammy” and regrets selling those pictures of himself. Thomas said that initially the paparazzi agency approached him and offered him money for some staged pictures. He thought it was harmless and agreed. Thomas has been offered anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000 for photos and or interviews. He thought the photos would help his image.
Meghan’s dad has been the subject of some unflattering tabloid stories about his health and relationship with his daughter. He thought these images of him “preparing” for the wedding would help the public view him in a positive way. Then his other daughter, Meghan’s step-sister who isn’t invited to the wedding, admitted the photos were staged and that it was her idea. Security footage of the photos being staged was also leaked.
TMZ also reports that Thomas suffered a heart attack about a week ago, but it’s mostly the staged tabloid photos that swayed him to skip the wedding. “This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding,” a Kensington Palace spokesperson said Monday, according to CNN. “She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation.”
The new media scrutiny has clearly affected Thomas, but not Meghan’s estranged half-siblings. Meghan’s half-brother and sister have been freely talking to the press about Meghan and what they think of her impending nuptials. It’s reported that she doesn’t have a relationship with either of the two and hasn’t spoken to her half-brother in seven years, but that isn’t stopping them from talking to the press.
