Despite former President Barack Obama being good friends with the royal family, Barack and his wife Michelle won’t be seeing Prince Harry and his wife-to-be Meghan Markle tie the knot this coming Saturday in London.
Many were left scratching their heads and wondering why the Obamas were intentionally left off the guest list considering how the Obamas and the royal family were on excellent terms and got along well with one another.
In September of 2017, Prince Harry was snapped sitting courtside with Obama smiling and chatting with one another as the two were attending the Wheel Chair Basketball game at the Pan AM stadium as part of the Invictus games in Toronto, Canada.
Two months later in December, Prince Harry and Obama sat down and did an interview with CNN that garnered thousands of views.
When wedding invites went out on March 22, 2018, thousands were shocked to have learned that despite their personal friendships with the family, the Obamas weren’t invited.
So was the Obamas’ invite lost in the mail or did they have a falling out that left them off the guest list.
As it turns out, the reason behind the Obamas not being invited is far from personal and is actually all political.
According to The Sun, it is being reported that while the couple would have liked to invite the Obamas to their wedding, to do that they’d have to also invite current United States President Donald Trump, with whom the couple purposely left off the guest list. Government mandarins pleaded with the couple to change their minds on inviting the Obamas as Britain’s relations with Trump’s White House sank to their lowest since his election last year, and basically, if they wanted the Obamas to come, they’d have to invite President Trump as well.
To ensure there were no hard feelings between the Obamas and the royal family, no political leaders and government officials were invited to the wedding.
Per CNN, “It has been decided that an official list of political leaders — both UK and international — is not required for Prince Harry and Ms. Markle’s wedding,” a Kensington Palace spokesman said. “Her Majesty’s Government was consulted on this decision, which was taken by the royal household.”
As for the snub, the Obamas are crying no harm, no foul and remain on good terms with the Royal family.
Just a few weeks ago, Michelle tweeted out a congratulatory message to Prince William and his wife, Kate on the birth of their son Prince Louis.
Barack and I are thrilled to congratulate The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their newest arrival! We hope to meet him soon for a Kensington Palace pajama party. I’ll wear my robe! pic.twitter.com/9zR7M049HR

Looks like the Obamas will have to watch the Royal Wedding on television like the rest of us!
