On June 11 news broke that Ariana Grande, 24, and Pete Davidson, 24, were engaged. It was reported that Davidson popped the question to Grande on June 9 roughly one month after they started dating. Grande and Davidson haven’t confirmed the news, but they also haven’t denied it and Grande has been wearing a ginormous diamond ring on her finger since. But this engagement rumor might be true. The Saturday Night Live cast member called Nick Cannon, 37, before proposing and Cannon is spilling all the details.
“He called before he was going to do it, and I said, ‘Salud!'” Cannon told ET. “He was really excited, so I was like, ‘I love it, man. Keep it going.’ Love is in the air!”
If it seems random that Cannon and Davidson are friends, don’t worry, you’re not alone. “A lot of people don’t know Pete Davidson is someone I introduced to entertainment,” he said.
Cannon gave ET a rundown of his friendship with Davidson. Before his SNL days, Davidson did stand up on the road with Cannon when he was 15 years old and also appeared on Cannon’s show Wild ‘N Out in 2013.
When Davidson called Cannon about proposing to Grande he encouraged him to the fullest to propose. “I don’t think [there’s such thing as too soon],” Cannon said. “But I’m a hopeless romantic, or as I say, a fearless romantic. I just like to jump into it, and sometimes it can get you in trouble, but it makes for some great stories.”
Cannon described himself as a “hopeless romantic” and loves to just jump head first in love. He’s obviously congratulated Davidson on their engagement but has yet to talk to Grande.
Cannon even offered to officiate their wedding. “I think they’re outstanding. They’re young people in love and you can’t knock that. It’s like The Notebook,” Cannon said. “I’m up for all weddings. I’ll officiate. I don’t know how long they’ll last if you let me do it, but I’m up for it.”
