On Monday Prince William took a royal tour of Jordan–which Kate called home as a child. In an adorable tribute, the prince stopped in Jerash, one of the nation’s famous archeological sites, and had his photo taken in the same spot The Duchess of Cambridge was photographed with her family when she was four years old. The original photo also includes Kate’s younger sister Pippa and her father. Kate is not on the trip to Jordan–she stayed home with the couple’s children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis–ages four, three and two months respectively.

In a speech on the first night of his visit, William said that his wife “is very sorry she could not be here with me so soon after the birth of our son.” Kate and her family lived in Amman, the capital of Jordan for two and a half years when her father (who is rocking some serious shades in the original picture) was stationed there as a British Airways manager. William stated his wife and her family “remembers very fondly the almost three years she spent here.”

Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan, the 23-year-old son of Queen Rania and King Abdullah II, has been the tour guide for Prince William throughout the majority of his trip. The duo even enjoyed a World Cup match at the Beit Al Urdun Palace where Prince William was understandably thrilled with England’s 6-1 victory over Panama.

In addition to his super cute photo opp, Prince William also met with young Syrian refugees receiving aid from UNICEF’s Makani program as well as visited a new base for the Quick Reaction Force which has British military support. The Prince will be visiting Jerusalem, Israel next. His trip to Israel will be the first time a British royal has even visiting the nation on behalf of the government of the United Kingdom. We are keeping our fingers crossed for more dashing photos!
Prince William in one of those random moments you only get on a royal tour – standing at the rock where his wife played as a child 30 years earlier. And a giant picture of that moment for posterity! #RoyalVisitJordan pic.twitter.com/F4WSL8LZOe
