Everything We Know About ‘The Hills’ Reboot

The VMAs had a lot of iconic moments, but the biggest moment for all the ’00s reality TV fans is the announcement of The Hills reboot. MTV brought back Jersey Shore, so it was only a matter of time before our favorite SoCal personalities made it back to our screens.

The reboot, The Hills New Beginnings, a new promotional video showed sweeping views of Los Angeles and the beach with an acoustic cover of Natasha Bedingfield’s song “Unwritten.” The same song that played during the series finale. Then it shows two people holding hands and a female voice (which everyone is assuming is Heidi Montag/Pratt’s) says, “It’s like we are all growing up. It’s weird.”

Rebooting shows is so in right now, so it makes sense that MTV has greenlit The Hills again. Let’s take a little refresher on how the original Hills ended and who from the OG cast is coming back.

The air date is unknown, in the promo it just says “coming soon.”

The Original Cast

The show started out with Lauren Conrad, her housemate Heidi Montag, their neighbor Audrina Patridge and Conrad’s fellow Teen Vogue intern Whitney Port. The show showed the girls friends and boyfriends who were the supporting cast. Lo Bosworth and Stephanie Pratt were added to the cast in season two and three respectively.

Kristin Cavallari joined the cast in season five when Conrad left and stayed until the show ended.

Conrad’s boyfriend Jason Wahler was in the supporting cast from season one to three. In season two Spencer Pratt, Brody Jenner and Jen Bunney were added to the cast. By season three Justin Bobby and Frankie Delgado joined The Hills. The last people to join the cast were Holly Montag and Stacie Hall in season four and season five respectively.

The Hills aired for six seasons from 2006 to 2010. During its time on air, many fans and critics accused the show of being scripted and fake. Whether the show was a reality show or scripted remained unknown until the series finale, which was iconic.

The show follows Conrad, Montag, Patridge and Port through their friendship and relationships. Things took a wild turn when Montag began dating Spencer Pratt. Conrad ends her friendship with Montag when she believes Pratt started a sex tape rumor about her and her current boo Jason Wahler.

Shit hits the fan from there on out. It’s Montag and Pratt versus everyone else. Even Pratt’s boy Brody Jenner sides with Conrad so he could be romantically involved with her. I’m still yearning for the alternative universe where Conrad is related to the Kardashians. Conrad left the show after the first half of season five and returned briefly in season six. Kristen Cavallari takes Conrad’s place as the lead.

The final season of The Hills started right after Montag had 10 plastic surgeries done at once. Pratt and Montag are facing criticism from their respective sister’s. Patridge began a relationship with Ryan Cabrera. Cavallari and Jenner, who used to date, started flirting again but it went nowhere.

The show ended with Cavallari deciding to move to Europe. Jenner is there to see her off in a limousine. While he is watching the limo leave the camera pans out to show that they’re filming on a lot and Cavallari gets out of the car and hugs Jenner. Confirming the show is scripted. An alternate ending was posted later that shows Jenner going back to a house and Conrad was inside waiting on the couch.

Who’s Coming Back

It is confirmed that the Hills reboot will feature Heidi, Spencer, Patridge, Port, Delgado, Bobby and Wahler. Heavy hitter, Conrad, Cavallari, Bosworth and Jenner aren’t confirmed to be returning.

People confirmed that Conrad won’t be returning for the reboot. Their source told them that Conrad wishes her former castmates all the best.

US Weekly confirmed through sources that Bosworth and Cavallari aren’t going to be coming back. Cavallari’s own reality show, Very Cavallari, launched on E! this year. The show follows her family and her employees at her Nashville store, Uncommon James.

In February Spencer told TMZ that Conrad was holding up the cast from a reunion show.

The tabloid also confirmed that a celebrity and two bloggers are added to the new Hills cast.

The original show was narrated by Conrad and then Cavallari, cementing their status as the main lead. Now it’s suspected that Heidi’s voice narrated the promo, alluding that she will be narrating the show making her the lead.
