Last night on August 28, Kanye West tweeted that he’s adding two new shoes to his expanding Yeezy line. The rapper and designer is currently working on adding two new glow in the dark Boost 350 v2 colorways.
The shoe that made Yeezy reach hype beast status will now come in glow in the dark neon yellow and orange.

The mock-up of the shoes look more reflective than glow in the dark. Like your white sneakers at the bowling alley, but on steroids. They look like construction workers vests, but for your feet. Or better yet, they look like a glow stick accidentally broke open and ruined your nice Yeezy Boosts. Anyways, they’ll most likely sell out in minutes.
His wife Kim Kardashian quote tweeted Kanye and explained the origin story behind the glow stick sneakers, and it’s quite endearing.
Kardashian tweeted that she was trying to convince her eldest daughter North West to wear her new Yeezy Boost Butter 350 v2s. North not understanding the clout she would get for sporting the new Yeezy colorway refused to wear the Butters. So Kardashian being any mom pulled out all the stops to convince her daughter to wear the shoes.
“I was bribing North to wear her butter 350’s by saying they glow in the dark,” Kardashian tweeted. “However, she made me turn off the lights to test it. She caught me lying but Kanye was on speaker phone & said don’t worry I will make them 😂”

A few things I love about this backstory, North catching Kardashian in a lie, North wanted to wear light up Yeezys over hollandaise sauce colored Yeezys and Kanye making a shoe just for his daughter.
This backstory works all too well with Kardashian’s recent affinity for neon. On her recent trip to Miami, Kardashian was wearing neon latex, neon wigs and driving neon cars.

Yes, I’m slightly skeptical. I wouldn’t put it past Kardashian and Kanye to take an idea that their 5-year-old had and ran with it creating a new neon wave. But if North inspired this new ultra-reflective obsession then I’m here for it.
North is a style icon after all and if she wants glow in the dark Yeezys then so do I, even if they are a bit much.
