Inside Ariana Grande’s Burn Book From Her ‘Thank U, Next’ Music Video

Ariana Grande just dropped her highly anticipated music video for her song “Thank U, Next.” The song is about her exes and how she’s grown and learned from her past relationships. In the music video she recreated four iconic films Mean Girls, Bring It On, Legally Blonde and 13 Going On 30.

The song starts as Mean Girls and Ariana as Regina George. She’s writing in her Thank, U Next book a.k.a her Burn Book about her exes. The flashes of each page are brief but full of information.

You first see Ricky Álvarez’s page. It shows a photo of the two in the middle. On the side it says, “Ricky” in a heart, “great dancer,” “good times, man” and “friends forever.” Clearly, there are no hard feelings over their break up.

Ariana and Ricky dated from 2015 to 2016. Ricky was Ariana’s backup dancer and some argue a bad influence on the pop star. He was the boyfriend who convinced her to lick the donut. Her manager Scooter Braun recently threw shade at Ricky and called him a “s***ty” ex-boyfriend. But based on Ariana’s Thank U, Next page all is good between the two.

Then you quickly get a glimpse at Big Sean‘s page. It shows a photo of the two kissing while on the red carpet. On the side of the page it says, “Sean” in a big heart followed by “so cute so sweet.” Underneath in parenthesis she wrote, “could still get it.”

Ariana and Sean dated from 2014 to 2015. The two were together for eight months and while together he was featured on two of her songs, “Right There” and “Best Mistake.” They broke up in April 2015.

Then afterward you get a view of Pete Davidson’s page. At first, it shows Ariana gluing down the photo of the two. On the side it says “Pete” in a heart and “I love u always.”

Then Ariana writes “Sorry I dipped” at the top of the page. This is referencing their broken engagement and confirming that she was the one to break things off. Pete and Ariana began dating in May 2018, the two were both newly single at the time and clicked right away. Almost a month after dating the two got engaged. Their quick relationship shocked her fans and the media.

Their whirlwind romance ended five months later when the couple called off their engagement in October. The reason behind their break up is still unknown, but now everyone knows it was Ariana who called it quits.

Then the video shows you an overview of Pete’s entire page. It says “HUUUUUGE” at the bottom. In June Ariana tweeted and deleted about the size of Pete’s manhood. A fan tweeted at Ariana asking “how long is Pete?” about her song “Pete Davidson.” Ariana responded, “Like 10 inches? …oh f**k…I mean…like a little over a minute.”

While they were dating the term, Big D**k Energy or BDE was coined about Pete. The huge at the bottom of the page could be a reference to one, both or none of these things.

Grande didn’t show a page for her late ex-boyfriend Mac Miller. When she sang his lyric she simply just looked up to the ceiling. Ariana and Mac dated from 2016 to 2018. They were friends at first and worked on her song “The Way” together. They finally confirmed their relationship at the 2016 MTV VMAs.

The couple broke up in May 2018. A few months later in September Mac passed away from a drug overdose. Grande mourned him on Instagram and wrote, “You were my dearest friend. For so long. Above anything else. I’m so sorry I couldn’t fix or take your pain away. I really wanted to. The kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved, I hope you’re okay now. Rest.”

The “Thank U, Next” video is definitely iconic and a must-see. Did you catch all of Ariana’s Burn Book writings while watching it?
