Today, Nick Carter has revealed that he has signed on to participate in Dancing With the Stars season 21 after several offers from the show to join. It does seem that the fifth time was the charm as it only took five separate tries to break the former boyband member down!
Carter states that it was his old boyband friend, Joey Fatone, who convinced him to sign on for the new season of DWTS. He participated on the show during its fourth and fifteenth season. Carter recalls that “[Fatone] talks about it all the time…he said, ‘It’s a great experience, it keeps you in shape and it’ll teach you a lot of stuff…You’ll get what you put into it.’ And I’m a hard worker, so I think it’ll be fun.”
There also seems like there was a bit of sibling rivalry that convinced Nick Carter to join. His younger brother, Aaron Carter, finished in fifth place with his partner, Karina Smirnoff, during season nine. Carter said, “…there’s a lot of competitiveness in me…’I’m going to go there and represent the Carter name and do even better than what he did!”
Even though Carter danced with his Backstreet Boys bandmates for over two decades, he doesn’t consider himself to be a greater dancer. He hopes, through the show, that he’ll become a better dancer and that “It’ll be a great experience to learn how to ballroom dance.”
Picking up dancing skills is not solely the reason why Carter is joining season 21 of DWTS. He states that “[he has] a tendency to get overweight pretty damn fast…so dancing has always kept me slim.”
On September 2, the celebrities and their partners will be revealed on Good Morning America.
Dancing With the Stars premieres Monday, September 14 at 8 pm.
