Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox for over $52 billion made headlines this week as a major and far-reaching merger — but Twitter is much more concerned with the fate of a certain long-lost Romanov on a journey to her past.
For well over a decade I have been listing Mulan as my favorite Disney princess, but no more. Now that Disney has acquired Fox Animation Studios (a division of 20th Century Fox) I can finally, finally welcome the quick-witted, self-sufficient clapback queen Anya to the Disney queendom.
Everyone heard the same rumor (in St. Petersberg) and now has the same question: is Anastasia officially Disney royalty?

Longtime fans of the film are relaxing into the notion that they no longer need to shout: “Anastasia isn’t a Disney Princess! That movie’s 20th Century Fox!” whenever someone suggests otherwise. Others are focusing on the possibility that as a Disney acquisition, the Princess Anastasia could become a full-fledged, live-action, con-artist-loving, train-jumping, Rasputin-defeating feature film star.
