Paul Ryan Tried To Brag About The GOP Tax Plan & Couldn’t Delete His Tweet Fast Enough

Paul Ryan invited a number of Lucille Bluth from Arrested Development comparisons this weekend when he bragged about the GOP tax plan on Twitter and came off as more than a little out-of-touch with, well, money.

On Saturday, the House Majority Leader posted a now-deleted tweet about a woman he met in Pennsylvania who was apparently delighted her pay increased by more than a dollar a week.

“A secretary at a public high school in Lancaster, PA, said she was pleasantly surprised her pay went up $1.50 a week,” he wrote, “she said [that] will more than cover her Costco membership for the year.”

While Ryan deleted the post quickly, the notion that he was bragging about giving a secretary an extra $78 a year — while the richest 1 percent of Americans benefit from 82 percent of the GOP tax benefits long-term — didn’t sit well with most people.
